Goths, fantasy fans and lovers of the macabre have a reason to head to San Antonio’s Pearl this Wednesday.

Hugo Award-winning illustrator and San Antonio artist John Picacio will sign copies of The Invisible Parade, his picture book co-created with New York Times bestselling fantasy author Leigh Bardugo, during the Pearl Night Market.

The book follows a young girl navigating grief on Día de Muertos, blending the holiday’s traditions of remembrance with the illustrator’s haunting and color-drenched visual style. Picacio’s illustrations capture both the somber beauty of loss and the warmth of a celebration that honors departed loved ones.

The book’s darkly whimsical imagery may appeal to fans of filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Tim Burton — and perhaps introduce younger readers to the joys of dark fantasy.

Free, 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, near the Twig Book Shop, 306 Pearl Parkway, Suite 106, (210) 826-6411, thetwig.com.
