Fiesta Oyster Bake will play a new tune next spring as part of a rebranding focused on the musical performances that have become a major part of its draw.
The St. Mary’s University Alumni Association, which produces the annual on-campus event to raise money for scholarships, said Tuesday that the event has been renamed Fiesta Oyster Bake Music Fest and will feature “bigger musical acts, expanded entertainment and larger audience capacity across two stages.”
The association didn’t announce any of the act’s for next year’s installment, scheduled for Friday, April 16, and Saturday, April 17. However, officials said ticket prices for early presale will be $30 per day, matching the gate prices. Those who buy during the event month can enter for $35, while day-of purchases at the gate or online will run $40.
“The St. Mary’s University Alumni Association’s Fiesta Oyster Bake Committee has taken into account audience feedback over the last few years to innovate and deliver a quality, Fiesta-inspired event that stands out from the crowd,” the organizers said in a statement.
Both musical stages will allow for VIP viewing decks and more space for festival-goers, organizers added. They said they made the changes in response to attendee feedback.
Oyster Bake started more than a century ago as St. Mary’s alumni get-together, but it’s since grown into an event featuring festival food, carnival rides and musical acts that run the gamut from Tejano and pop to hip-hop and classic rock.
The rebranding and promise to book bigger-name acts come as organizers of other Fiesta events, including A Night in Old San Antonio, have scrapped plans for next year, citing financial difficulties and and the rising costs of staging parties.
