With soul at the center of the conversation, the second annual Con-ALMA Forum, “Identidad Mexicoamericana: Culturas e historias binacionales,” will explore the histories and family ties that shape Mexican American identity on both sides of the border.

The free public event will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Mexican Cultural Institute San Antonio, 643 E. Nueva St. ALMA, the Alliance of Mexicans & Americans, has organized the forum in partnership with MAPA and San Antonio’s Mexican Consulate to bring together diverse voices to discuss the cultural and personal experiences that connect Mexico and the United States.

The program will feature scholars, artists, journalists, cultural leaders and community advocates from both sides of the border to facilitate conversations about the experiences of families who live between Mexico and the U.S.

The day will unfold through three panels. The first, “Ser y convertirse en persona Mexicoamericana,” features UTSA professor emerita Ellen Riojas Clark, writer and anthropologist Cecilia Ballí, public artist Luis López, UNAM San Antonio’s Alfredo Ávalos Lara and social anthropologist Maria Zentella. The discussion will consider how Mexican-American identity develops through lived experience and education.

A second panel, “La identidad binacional en casa,” shifts attention to the family sphere. Participants include chef and San Antonio culinary ambassador Lizzeth Martínez, cultural artist Edna Lugo Martínez, Avenida Guadalupe Association CEO Gabriel Quintero and media executive Ruben Linder.

The final conversation, “Cultura y comunidad,” will highlight the role of the arts in shaping collective identity. Featured speakers include painter and musician Joao Quiroz, pianist Silvia Santinelli and cultural promoter Yazmin Belcerra.

Each panel will feature opening reflections from speakers, a moderated discussion and an audience Q&A. Organizers said the format, rather than a formal presentation, is designed to encourage dialogue.

Those unable to attend in person can watch a livestream on YouTube. Admission is free and open to the public with no RSVP required.

Free, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 643 E. Nueva St., San Antonio, (210) 227-0123, icm.sre.gob.mx or almausamex.org.
