Comedian Alex Reymundo builds a lot of his material around Latino identity, which makes sense since he hit the national scene with an appearance in Paramount Pictures’ The Original Latin Kings of Comedy alongside Paul Rodriguez, Cheech Marin and George Lopez.
However, during 30 years of working the road, Reymundo — who performs a five-show stand Thursday through Saturday at Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club — has cast a wide net as he built an audience.
For one, the LA-based comic was a regular touring mate of with Blue Collar Comedy Tour charter member Ron White, and he’s been willing to lean into the redneck side of stand-up with his hour-long comedy specials Hick-Spanic and Red-Nexican.
Reymundo can get political at times, such as when he discusses immigration. However, in between zinging hypocrisy built in the system, he’s unafraid to veer into goofiness, such as the play on words he invokes in his YouTube special Legally Brown, where he talks about a cop pulling him over and asking for papers.
“Don’t do I what I did. He asked me for my papers, and I said, ‘I don’t have any papers, but I’ve got a one-hitter and some chronic.”
