San Antonio haunted house theme park 13th Floor is offering up new nightmares to kick off spooky season, and the new attractions promise to be more ghoulish than ever.
The downtown haunt, rated one of the nation’s five scariest haunted houses by USA Today, is known for its cinematic set design and unnerving narratives. But this year, it’s leveling up with new dynamic staging, a larger-than-life finale, and a state-of-the-art high-def sound system that its operators say is “designed to rattle guests to their core.”
The first of its new offerings is Jason Universe: Survive the Night, a themed attraction based on the gory exploits of Jason Voorhees, the masked slasher from the Friday the 13th franchise.
In this officially licensed walkthrough attraction, guests will attempt to escape the infamous killer who, as he’s depicted in the cinematic franchise, always seem to be one step ahead.
The park’s other new attraction, Dose of Decay, is set in a post-apocalyptic city besieged by a chemical plague. The I Am Legend-esque urban wasteland comes complete with a mad scientist and his biological mutant victims.
The terrifyingly revamped haunted house opens its gates on select nights from Sept. 12 through Nov. 8 at 1203 E. Commerce St. Tickets start at $19.99 and are on sale now.
“We wanted to give San Antonio something wilder and more intense than ever before,” said Blaine Skreenock, 13th Floor San Antonio’s general manager. “Getting to bring an absolute legend like the Jason Universe into the mix alongside the pure chaos of Dose of Decay, plus all our sound and set upgrades, means people are walking into a totally different level of scares the second they step inside.”
