After being forced to scrap plans five years ago to record a Netflix special in San Antonio, stand-up comic Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias is taking another shot.
In a Tuesday Facebook announcement, the funnyman with a soft spot for the Alamo City said he’s taping his next comedy special Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. It will be his tenth.
“It should come as no surprise — we were supposed to do it there the first time: San Antonio,” said Iglesias, who canceled a 2021 taping here when he came down with COVID-19.
Tickets for the Tobin show go on sale at 2 p.m. Wednesday via the venue’s website. There’s a four-ticket limit per purchase, and they start at $72.50.
In his Facebook announcement, Iglesias also showed off his new puppy, Bronco, a one-pound Chihuahua, which a friend gifted him for his 50th birthday. The comedian described his new animal companion as a “little Mexican hand grenade.”
“Let me tell you, I have not slept,” Iglesias said.
Over the years, Iglesias has described San Antonio as his home-away-from-home and celebrated the quality of its Tex-Mex cuisine, including beloved hole-in-the-wall eateries such as Garcia’s Mexican Food.
$72.50-$98, 8 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 100 Auditorium Circle, (210) 223-8624, tobincenter.org.
