Like almost every rom-com, An Infinite Ache opens with a so-called “meet cute” – except for the fact that it jettisons the “cute.” Young singles Hope and Charles meet up for what becomes a mind-numbingly dull blind date (something with which we can likely all relate).

But, somehow, the two are still drawn together, and the action rushes forward to play out a lifelong fantasy of love and loss. Though at the onset it would be perfectly understandable for our two protagonists to ghost one another and move on, An Infinite Ache takes a different tack, opting instead to map out a romance not built on explosive infatuation but on a deep connection woven over the course of a full life.
