San Diego-based hotdog chain Barrio Dogg has shuttered its San Antonio location after less than a year in business.

Barrio Dogg’s owners revealed the closure Sunday on the restaurant’s Instagram page. The Southtown eatery, which launched last March, featured an array of fully loaded artisanal Mexican-style hot dogs. It paid homage to Chicano art and lowrider car culture in its interior decor.

“With a heavy heart, we must share some difficult news. Barrio Dogg has shut down operations,” the social media post said. “This was not an easy decision, but due to unforeseen circumstances, it is a necessary step at this time.”

The Current reached out for additional comment but got no response by press time.

Billed as “for the barrio — from the barrio,” the Barrio Dog chain is the dream child of Californians Pablo Rios and Ernesto Gastelum. Last year, the pair told multiple news outlets that San Antonio felt like the “perfect fit” for their company’s expansion plans.

The chain’s location at 620 S. Presa St. — the building once housed vegan Tex-Mex concept Senor Veggie — may have closed, but the Instagram announcement made it sound like Barrio Dogg hasn’t given up on SA.

“While this chapter is coming to a pause, this is not the end. We will be back, stronger and ready to serve you again,” the post read. “This is just a temporary goodbye, not a farewell.”
