San Antonio food-focused nonprofit Culinaria has launched Food Trails, an interactive map showcasing some of the best restaurants the city has to offer.

The first curated food trails on the map highlight where to get the best margaritas, burgers, tacos, barbecue and cocktails in the Alamo City. The guide launched April 3 on the Culinaria website.

To make the Food Trails easy to explore from a phone, Culinaria also launched Vibemap, which it calls “an intuitive new app designed to connect users with places, experiences, and people that resonate with their personal ‘vibe’ or energy,” according to statement from the nonprofit.

Through Vibemap, restaurant outings are turned into gamified experiences for both the customer and business by rewarding engagement and participation with badges. Vibemap is available for download on iPhone and Android.

All the restaurants are hand-picked by food experts “who know great food when they taste it,” Culinaria officials said in the statement. Restaurants were selected based on customer service, dining experience, menu and integrity rather than through paid placement, accoridng to the organization.

“Our goal is to celebrate San Antonio’s confluence of culture through food and drink in a way that’s interactive and new to our community,” Culinaria CEO and President Suzanne Taranto-Etheredge said. “With the launch of our new Food Trails via our website and Vibemap, users can easily explore and navigate their way to the most exciting flavors, whether they’re looking for a Michelin-worthy meal or the best street food in town.”

Restaurants featured in the guide include Curry Boys BBQ, Carriqui, Brasserie Mon Chou Chou, Elsewhere, Mark’s Outing and others. The taco trail also includes a plethora of hidden gem taquerias. The watering holes featured include Bar Loretta, The Modernist, Dos Sirenos Brewing, The Friendly Spot, Sternewirth and more.

Through the curated map, the organization hopes to help locals and tourists alike to discover the vibrant culinary landscape of San Antonio.
