Europa Restaurant & Bar has permanently closed after serving up an eclectic taste of the “Old World” to Medical Center-area diners for nearly five years.

The eatery, located at 8811 Fredericksburg Road, revealed the sudden closure in a social media post, as MySA reported Friday.

The post has since been deleted. The Current reached out to the business to confirm its closure but got no response by press time.

Europa was known for serving a continent-spanning array of European dishes, including Norwegian cod, Bulgarian shopska salad, London-style fish and chips, German schnitzel and Italian pasta dishes. The eatery also served as a nightlife spot with its full bar and signature cocktails.

The dining spot generated a buzz when it opened in December 2019, later winning Best New Restaurant in the Current‘s 2020 Best of San Antonio issue.

Bulgarian former professional soccer player Lubo Bogdanov, who also serves as business development manager for grocery chain H-E-B, co-owned Europa with business partner Milan Saltchev, according to multiple news reports.
