Ricky’s Tacos, a beloved food truck near UTSA, has closed indefinitely, according to a social media post from its operators.
“It is with a heavy heart that we write to inform you of difficult news regarding our food truck,” the Instagram statement reads. “After 15 incredible years of serving this wonderful community, we will be closing our doors for the foreseeable future.”
The truck, which was stationed at 6576 Babcock Road, was known for serving up Mexican-style street tacos at an affordable price. Though the business didn’t specify the reason for the closure, the announcement alludes to “unexpected business matters” prompting the shutdown.
“As many of you know, running a small business comes with its unique set of challenges, and sometimes we are faced with unexpected business matters that require our full attention,” the statement continued. “It is with deep sadness that we must take this time to resolve those issues.”
This closure is one of many that have plagued San Antonio food businesses recently. Some brick-and-mortar restaurants, such as El Remedio, have scaled back down to food trucks, while others, such as Go Fish, have switched concepts in a bid to improve business.
Fans of Ricky’s Tacos expressed sadness in comments left at the truck’s Instagram page.
“If it is indeed time to say goodbye, then honestly, my heart is breaking faster than a taco shell under too much guac,” Instagram user @jcreezy72 wrote. “Just know that you’ll always hold a special place in my heart — and my waistline.”
Despite the bad news, Ricky’s announcement ended on a hopeful note, stating, “We hope that, in time, we can find a way forward and bring back the flavors and food you’ve grown to love.”
