South Texas drive-thru institution Whataburger is ordering up two new San Antonio restaurants, both expected to debut around the middle of next year.
The Alamo City-based chain will develop new stores at 10411 Shaenfield Road on the far West Side and 6311 Old Pearsall Road in Southwest San Antonio near Traders Village, according to filings with state regulators. The outlets will be new constructions and take the company’s total number in SA to 59.
Whataburger will start work on the Shaenfield Road restaurant in October and compete it next May, filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation show. The unit will cost roughly $975,000 to construct.
The company will drop nearly $1.3 million on its Old Pearsall Road unit, which is expected to be finished next June, according to state documents. Work on that property will begin next February.
Whataburger’s hometown expansion comes as the chain continues to grow its footprint outside the Lone Star State. Last month, the 75-year-old chain opened its first restaurant in Charlotte, North Carolina, and its eighth in Colorado. It now has operations in 15 states, including Texas.
