Just when you thought San Antonio had reached its limit on fried chicken joints, College Station-based Layne’s Chicken Fingers is entering the scene.

The first Alamo City outpost for the College Station-based cult restaurant chain is currently under construction at 742 SW Military Drive, a recent Texas Department of Licensing and Registration filing shows. The buildout is scheduled for completion in late September.

The chain grew from a single College Station location opened in 1994 to feed hungry Texas A&M students. Last fall, the Current reported that Layne’s had signed a 44-unit franchise deal that would include locations in San Antonio, West Texas and the Coastal Bend area. Until that point, the closest location was in Seguin.

Layne’s Chicken Fingers’ website also teases one more San Antonio location as “coming soon,” a spot at 7249 Bandera Road. No state filings have been made for its construction, though.

Layne’s mean keeps it straightforward, focusing on fried chicken finger combos, club sandwiches, chicken wraps and sides such as crinkle cut fries, all served with signature sauces.
