North-of-downtown dining and shopping destination Pearl is breathing new life into some of its empty restaurant spaces after a series of shakeups over the past few months.
Let’s run down some of the new restaurant concepts on the way.
Rosso opening in Cured space
New Italian steakhouse Rosso will move into the space previously occupied by the esteemed but shuttered Cured. The new restaurant’s Instagram, while sparse, promises steaks, pasta and red sauce. Fitting that a purveyor of red sauces and red meats would be called Rosso, which means “red” in Italian.
The eatery is a venture by a cadre of decorated chefs, including two-time Dallas Morning News Best Chef André Natera, Bravo’s Top Chef Season 18 winner Gabe Erales and Rico Torres, whom Food & Wine named 2017’s Best New Chef.
Rosso doesn’t have an exact opening date yet but is expected to arrive in late 2026, according to a release by the Pearl and the chefs’ hospitality group, La Unión Hospitality.
(A)mar bringing the seaside to former Allora space
High-end Latin seafood spot (A)mar is coming to the space formerly occupied by Allora in the Credit Human building across the parking lot from the main Pearl complex. Inspired by the owners’ travels through Tulum, Oaxaca and the coastlines of Colombia and Peru, the restaurant is centered around celebrating the coastal flavors of Latin America. It’s all in the name — “Amar” is Spanish for “to love,” while “mar” is Spanish for “sea.”
For the menu, expect ceviches, white fish, salmon and grilled octopus. The multi-level space will also feature a DJ booth, waiting area, speakeasy and a wine cellar for private tastings. (A)mar was supposed to open in May but is still putting the finishing touches on the space as of this week.
Recession-indicator happy hour at Jue Let
Jue Let, the hip cocktail bar from the minds behind Best Quality Daughter, dropped a new Happy Hour menu meant for these trying times. Appropriately titled “In This Economy?” it features $5 cocktails — such as espresso martinis — and some $5 snacks.
Bludorn coming to Carriqui space
Bludorn Hospitality Group is planning a new concept for the beloved and historic Carriqui building. Bludorn Houston describes itself as Gulf Coast seafood at a French-inspired, Michelin recommended restaurant in the hip, upscale neighborhood of Montrose.
Loverboy House Eats
Though still under construction, this space next to the Coopers Row apartment complex promises coffee in the morning and cocktails at night. The hangout will also feature vinyl DJ sets.
Voilà Café is open
Located in the Oxbow Building right across the highway from the Pearl, this French bistro is already open, offering pastries, coffee, mimosas and breakfast.
Pearl Putt is now open
For those looking to make it a date night at the Pearl, an 18-hole miniature golf course is exactly the vibe for a little flirtatious competition.
