Twang Brands, the San Antonio-based purveyor of beer salts and michelada mixes, has sold the part of its business that markets products to national and regional foodservice brands, according to company officials.

Solina USA Inc. — a U.S. division of a top European custom ingredient manufacturer — has purchased Twang Foodservice, which produces customized beverage systems, dry beverage mixes, flavor concentrates and seasonings for the foodservice industry. The companies didn’t reveal terms of the sale.

The good news here for fans of Twang’s beer salts and mixes is that the packaged-goods portion of the 40-year-old company remains in the hands of the founding Treviño family and co-investors.

The business will continue to be run from the Alamo City with manufacturing operations in Rioverde, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, company officials said.

Twang Brands CEO Elysia Treviño-Gonzales said the deal was three years in the making and will leave the family business in a stronger position.

“We look forward to capitalizing on this partnership with Solina for future growth,” Treviño-Gonzales said in a statement. “This separation from Twang Brands will enable the Twang Brands management team to focus on driving our family’s brand into the future.”

Founded by Roger Treviño Sr. in his family’s garage, Twang has since expanded its retail footprint to all 50 states and tens of thousands of retail stores. In 2023, the company inked a deal to put its products in 3,500 Walmart outlets nationwide.
