Austin cat cafe Purrfecto Cat Lounge is prepping for an expansion into San Antonio this summer, though construction on its space is taking a little longer than expected, according to the business’ owners.
The kitty coffee shop will be located at 227 E. Cevallos St., Suite 101, in Southtown’s Lonestar District, state regulatory records show. The new space will offer 3,000 square feet of “pure cat + coffee magic” with a full coffee shop inside, according to an Instagram post last week from the venture.
While Purrfecto Cat Lounge’s Austin flagship can accommodate approximately 20 people and 20 cats, the Alamo City spot will have a capacity of 40 people and approximately 30 cats, MySA reports.
The business also revealed that it will team up with local bakeries, cookie companies and bagel shops for exclusive bakes — “because carbs + cats = emotional stability.”
Purrfecto Cat Lounge originally planned to open its San Antonio store in late 2025 or early 2026, according to a prior Instagram announcement. However, last week’s post revealed that construction delays pushed the launch date back to August or September.
“Trust us — we’d rather take a little longer and get it purrfect than rush it and have the cats judging us,” the post said.
Cafe-goers can expect wine on the menu along with an event calendar of cat-centric hobbies, including cat yoga, clay with cats, purrlates and more. And since adoption is a main part of Purrfecto’s mission, patrons will also have the chance to take home a friendly feline if they so desire.
Purrfecto’s original Austin location has helped get 1,900 cats adopted, according to its website. The business partners with foster-based organizations to rescue cats from the streets and from shelters where they’re at risk of euthanasia.
Purrfecto has also donated $20,000 of its profits to Austin rescue organizations, according to the site.
The online rescue information states that all cats available for adoption through Purrfecto’s rescue partners are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before going to their new homes. But even those who aren’t in the market for a new kitty companion are still supporting the rescue operation just by stopping by, the site added.
Those who patronize Purrfecto for coffee and cuddles are supporting the rescues by paying for food and litter, veterinary care and medications, not to mention a safe place for rescues to stay while they wait for their “furrever families,” according to the website.
“At Purrfecto Austin, we don’t go a single day without an adoption,” the business’s Instagram post stated last week. “At San Antonio, we’re expecting to do even more.”
