An huarache (ua-RAH-che) is a flat-heeled sandal commonly found scuffling Mexican streets, but is also the name of delicious Mexican dish. The more edible huarache is a long, flat, corn-flour tortilla, and the good people at El Taco H taco truck are among the very few in San Antonio who serve it. Topped with refried beans, crema Mexicana, queso fresco, avocado, lettuce, and tomato, Taco H’s huarache has a lethal side: a whole chile toreado (grilled jalapeño) and a sauce made with a mix of habanero, serrano, and jalapeño peppers. Tasty, but definitely not for wimps.
