After making its San Antonio debut last fall, Pacific Northwest-based Killer Burger is cooking up plans for a second area location, a state regulatory filing shows.
The chain will drop $500,000 developing a new store near Brooks City Base, according to records submitted to the Texas State Department of Licensing and regulation. Work on the space at 7511 S. New Braunfels Ave., Suite 105, is expected to begin March 1 and wrap up by July, records show.
Both San Antonio restaurants are franchise units owned by Thomas “TJ” Southard, who founded Killer Burger and serves as its majority owner. They’re the chain’s first stores outside of the Pacific Northwest.
During a phone call with the Current, Southard said the success of the chain’s first San Antonio store, 12834 Potranco Road, convinced him a second was in order.
“The market’s been very receptive, Southard said. “We’ve seen a great turnout and a lot of happy people.”
Even so, Southard said he hasn’t set a goal for how many stores he wants to develop around the Alamo City.
“We’re going to take it opportunity by opportunity and base that on what makes sense,” he added. “We didn’t have some grand, major plan when we came to Texas. We just started making burgers, and we’ll see what happens.”
Killer Burger is known for its sandos’ creative flavor combinations — such as a Peanut Butter Pickle Bacon Burger — and its crispy, thick-cut fries.
The restaurants feature locally curated art on their walls — the Potranco store features a massive Día de los Muertos mural, for example — and also offer an array of beers on tap plus a “Drink Lab,” where diners can doctor their beverages with additional flavorings.
