Documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation show a project planned for La Cantera, with construction slated to begin June 1 and conclude Sept. 1 with an estimated cost of $200,000. The renovation project will transform one of La Cantera’s food kiosks into a La Panaderia quick-service bakery, something the business teased last year.
Since opening in 2014 at Loop 410 and Broadway, the San Antonio bakery has steadily added locations to enlarge its footprint. The downtown location, which opened in 2017 at 301 E. Houston St., normally has a line of tourists wrapped around the block, eager to try some of the best pan dulce in a pan dulce city. Additionally, La Panadería has a midtown location at 2503 Broadway.
La Panadería already has a location near La Cantera at 17030 Fiesta Texas Drive at a shopping plaza called La Cantera Heights. However, this new La Cantera location would be inside the sprawling shopping center as a smaller satellite.
And other projects are in the works for the chain, including a 6,600-square-foot Stone Oak location and another at the former north-of-downtown space of Fratelli’s Deli & Market, according to previous reporting by the Current.
