San Antonio is set to gain a third Kona Grill restaurant, this one taking over the former Bar-B-Cutie Smokehouse location near I-10 and North Loop 1604, regulatory documents show.

The Denver-based steak-and-seafood chain will spend $2 million refurbishing the former barbecue spot at 5603 Presidio Parkway, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Construction on the 4,000-square-foot building is expected to begin April 28 and wrap up around the end of August.

Kona Grill officials were unavailable for immediate comment on the new restaurant.

The company serves both American and Asian-fusion fare along with sushi and cocktails. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization five years ago and has continued to expand since reaching a deal to pay off its creditors.

Kona Grill has roughly 30 locations nationwide, including its existing San Antonio stores at 7400 San Pedro Ave. #1255 and another at 15900 La Cantera Parkway.
