New Italian restaurant Mare e Monte hasn’t officially trumpeted its launch, but it’s already built quite a buzz.

After holding a soft opening in April and building up word-of-mouth support, the Medical Center eatery will hold a grand opening on Monday, Nov. 25, according to its owners.

Despite the relatively low profile of Mare e Monte, located at 9390 Huebner Road, reviews have been pouring in on Facebook group San Antonio Restaurants, and many heap glowing praise on the dining spot.

The San Antonio Current also included Mare e Monte in its recent slideshow of 21 of San Antonio’s best under-the-radar restaurants, and Texas Monthly awarded the spot three stars in its dining guide.

Mare e Monte — Italian for “sea and mountain” — showcases that country’s fresh seafood dishes and mountain flavors. Seafood specialties such as calamari all’arrabbiata, lobster ravioli, sole oregenata and black pasta colored with squid ink have drawn praise in recent reviews. Reviews also frequently mention Mare e Monte’s personable and warm service, along with its attentive host and proprietor, Prince Blakaj. Mare e Monte’s hours of operation are 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Though normally closed on Mondays, the restaurant will make an exception for its grand opening, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Subscribe to SA Current newsletters.
