On August 8, 1950, an entrepreneur by the name of Harmon Dobson sold his first Whataburger order in Corpus Christi. Now, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of that historic transaction, the San Antonio-based burger chain is getting back to basics.
Whataburger will offer its signature No. 1 burger on Friday, Aug. 8 for only 75 cents, according to company officials. The digital-exclusive offer is valid for one order only through a Whataburger Rewards member account. The birthday discount isn’t eligible for orders placed in-store.
The 75-cent burgers will be available from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on the date of the 75th anniversary only.
In addition to the discounted birthday burger bonanza, Whataburger will offer limited-edition 32-oz collectible cups starting on Monday, August 5, the company also revealed.
On Aug. 8, Whataburger fans in Corpus Christi can join in on an “Orange Out” baseball game, which includes additional anniversary festivities at Whataburger Field, 734 E. Port Ave. The Corpus Christi Hooks will be temporarily renamed the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits as they take on the Tulsa Drillers in the 75th anniversary celebration game.
The first 1,500 fans through the gate will receive a Whataguy mask, and the first 5,000 will score a Whataguy cape. The night will end with orange fireworks and a coupon for a free honey butter chicken biscuit for each guest.
Sounds like some die-hard San Antonio Whatafans may want to contemplate a roadtrip.
