If there’s one thing San Antonio’s culinary scene does well — and we’re not referring to margaritas here — it’s restaurant collaborations.
Take, for example, the first-ever pop-up between revered barbecue spot 2M Smokehouse and boundary-pushing Mexican dining bastion Mixtli, which the restaurants are promoting as a day dedicated to barbecue and innovative sides.
The event will take place on Sunday, July 26, from 11 a.m. until sellout. Organizers from both eateries are recommending people arrive early.
The pop-up will take place at Mixtli at 812 S. Alamo St., Suite 103, and the entrance to order will be on the cellar side of the restaurant.
Highlights from the pop-up’s menu include 2M’s smoked Wagyu brisket, coffee-and-ancho-chile pulled pork, orange-and-lemon-pepper smoked turkey, and pork and beef sausage links with a garam masala and chile mix.
As for the sides? Think smoked Gouda Mac n’ cheese, curried potato salad, kimchee-style pickles and more. Desserts will include ube bread pudding, carrot cake cobbler and campfire cookies.
The Texas Michelin Guide has recognized both Mixtli and 2M as exceptional restaurants, and the pop-up’s price tag reflects that pedigree. For example, a plate for two that includes half a pound of all the meats, one sausage link, eight ounces of each side, a side of pickles, bread, and two ounces of a special roasted watermelon barbecue sauce runs $130.
In 2024, Mixtli became the first San Antonio restaurant to earn a prestigious Michelin Star, and the dining spot retained the designation the following year. Meanwhile, 2M Smokehouse earned a spot on the Michelin Recommended list.
