From Texas to Tennessee, San Antonio’s Curry Boys BBQ has made 2024 a year of expansion.

Following the debut of a second Curry Boys location in Stone Oak this summer,  co-founders Sean Wen, Andrew Samia and Andrew Ho revealed Monday on their social media channels that a third location is in the works in Nashville.

The new location for the chain, which mixes Texas-style smoked meat with Southeast Asian flavors, is slated to open next spring in East Nashville, a buzzy neighborhood with a thriving food and nightlife scene.

“It was less of a ‘moment’ and more to do with who we knew in Nashville,” Wen told the Current of the new location.

“One of our [business] partners lives there and has always mentioned its thriving and vibrant food scene, so when we would go visit, or do a collab up there, we’d always find more things to love with the city,” he added.

That business associate, Adam Lathan, will serve as a Curry Boys BBQ partner for the Nashville location. As chef-owner of The Gumbo Bros, a Tennessee-based Cajun restaurant, Lathan brings ample culinary experience to the new venture.

Wen said East Nashville’s secondary draw was its similarity to the neighborhood around the St. Mary’s Strip, where the first Curry Boys was born.

“We’re particularly excited to be in East Nashville because the neighborhood is so similar to the neighborhood we are in right now, and the community is so tight knit,” Wen said.

Determined to keep the level of quality that earned the original location James Beard Award nominations, Wen said any further expansion plans must be “organic.”

“As for more locations, we really don’t have anything planned,” he added. “[New locations have to be] with the right people and in the perfect location, and it just so happened that after many years, we found that in East Nashville.”
