Cold treats may not be on many of our minds at the moment, but as we creep ever closer to San Antonio’s summer heat, they certainly will.

Good thing two new ice cream shops have arrived in the Alamo City: Amorino Gelato and Muu La La.

With an opening date set for this Thursday, Amorino Gelato is first up on the menu.

The French chain of artisanal gelatos and ice creams is making its local debut with a shop at 200 Riverwalk St., Suite 105. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., guests can enjoy complimentary tastings, authentic Italian hot chocolate, a first experience with Amorino’s gelato menu and more, according to company officials.

Founded by childhood friends Cristiano Sereni and Paolo Benassi in 2002, Amorino Gelato now has more than 250 locations worldwide. The chain also has an assortment of plant-based sorbets for guests with dietary restrictions.

Meanwhile, over at 2211 NW Military Highway, Suite 121, a new and locally based ice cream concept dubbed Muu La Lá is preparing for a March opening.

A company representative told the Current that Muu La Lá also offers gelato along with espresso-based beverages made with beans from locally based Merit Coffee Co.

Like Amorino, Muu La Lá also will serve dairy-free options, and its menu features several sugar-free choices. Guests can enjoy cones, cups, shakes and a special brioche-and-gelato item.

Muu La Lá will debut in the Castle Hills neighborhood, near Tu Asador’s original location, Clementine and the European Dumplings Cafe.
