Italian eatery Primo’s will launch April 10 as the latest tenant of 720 E. Mistletoe Ave. The spot is the brainchild of Michael Wilkerson, previously an assistant general manager for Ida Claire in San Antonio, and Nels Christensen, former corporate chef for the Southern dining chain. Christensen also worked in San Francisco and Seattle alongside James Beard Award winners before returning to SA to be closer to family.
Primo’s will be open for lunch and dinner, serving up not just gourmet pies but specialties such as chicken parmesan on a large garlic-knot bun, Wilkerson told the Current. Service will run six days a week with the exception of Mondays.
On weekends, Primo’s will also serve brunch with a menu of Italian-inspired items including lemon-ricotta pancakes and eggs with red pepper sauce served with beans and kale. Brunch also will include mimosas and other cocktails, including a blood orange spiral spritz.
Primo’s bar also will feature a diverse menu with more than 20 wine pairings to choose from and at least three beers on tap, according to Wilkerson. The tap selection could expand with time, he added.
Primo’s will be the first concept launched by Wilkerson’s newly formed CW Hospitality restaurant group.
Wilkerson has extensive restaurant experience working for New York-based LDV Hospitality, where he helped open fine-dining spots in Miami, Las Vegas and the Big Apple. He hopes to open more concepts in San Antonio in coming years, he said.
