Crushing heavy metal met cheeky humor as Dethklok and Amon Amarth brought their Amonklok Conquest tour to San Antonio’s Boeing Center at Tech Port on Friday, joined by special guests Castle Rat.
Dethklok demonstrated why they’re the most popular cartoon death metal band in the universe with a brutal set where projected visuals tied to the show Metalocalypse met titanic riffs.
Meanwhile, co-headliner Amon Amarth delivered big on its brand of Viking-inspired melodic death metal — a style seemingly engineered for singalongs and a raucous audience response.
Relative newcomers Castle Rat won over the crowd with their brand of doom-laden fantasy metal, complete with chainmail bikinis, plague-doctor masks and onstage swordplay.
How much more metal could Friday night have gotten? To misquote Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, “The answer is ‘none.’ None more metal.”
