Girl in a Coma frontwoman Nina Diaz will perform an acoustic solo set Sunday, Nov. 3, at San Antonio’s Echo Bridge.

Concerts at the unconventional South Side venue harness the acoustics of the Mrs. Frank W. Sorrell Bridge for shows that are often unplugged. The bridge amplifies the sound, carrying it from performers on one side of the river to the audience seated on the other.

Alt-rock trio Girl in a Coma recently reunited and has a new album coming out soon. Diaz plans to play two dressed-down acoustic versions of songs off GIAC’s upcoming album during her solo set, according to event organizers.

True to the playful and hippie-ish nature of the Echo Bridge Appreciation Society concert series, the show will begin at 4:20 p.m.

Diaz started making music at the age of 13, forming Girl in a Coma with her sister Phanie Diaz and friend Jenn Alva. The group made an international splash after signing to Joan Jett’s Blackhearts Records. Austin NPR affiliate KUTX has described Diaz as “one of the two or three most exciting, scary-good vocalists in rock today.”
Diaz began her solo career in 2014, later releasing albums The Beat Is Dead (2016) and I Could Be You, You Could Be Me (2022). Even though GIAC is reunited, Diaz continues to cultivate her career as a solo artist, just as her sister and Alva continue to perform in punk group Fea.

San Antonio visual artists and curators Justin Parr and Jeff Wheeler oversee the Echo Bridge Appreciation Society concert series. Parr owns Fl!ght Gallery at the Blue Star Arts Complex, and Wheeler is creative director at South | Side Living + Maker Spaces.

The Echo Bridge is located at 2617 Texas 536 Spur. Those attending shows at the venue should head down the embankment to the river from the parking lot of coffee shop and bar Tandem San Antonio. Comfortable shoes along with beach blankets or low lawn chairs are recommended.
Tickets run $15 and are still available via Eventbrite.
