So, you know how when you go online to buy tickets to some show you want to see with your boo and by the time you get to the checkout screen the price advertised is now like $8 more than you expected? It’s those blasted service fees! But they actually used to be a lot worse until Ticketmaster, who, against the attempted block from few members of Congress, merged with Live Nation a few years ago, got in trouble for their “excessive and deceptive” fees, and eventually issued millions of vouchers to customers who purchased tickets between October 21, 1999 and February 27, 2013 (which ended up being difficult to use).
The live music corporation known Live Nation pretty much runs the live music game in most of North America through their ownership of one of the largest concerts promotion companies in the world, C3 Presents (Lollapalooza, ACL), to their acquisition of The House of Blues venues (and SA’s The Aztec Theatre), their recent controlling stake now in Bonnaroo, their merging with Ticketmaster, and even artist management and music licensing. So, from now until May 9, (maybe in attempt to “give back”) Live Nation is letting customers bypass all service fees and purchase tickets to a few shows for exactly 20 bucks.
