In a recent interview with Texas Standard, Honky-tonk revivalist Dale Watson said he believes our sister to the north – Austin, his home – is becoming uninhabitable for musicians, stating: “I just really feel the city has sold itself… This city was never about money. It was about quality of life.”
And honestly, that’s what his music’s about: living life.
With straight-forward guitar chord progressions and vocal melodies as per most honky-tonk music, and with lyrics like “I like to drink Lone Star / I like to smoke pot / it makes us happy / we do it a lot,” what’s not to love?
Since Watson’s show was cancelled back in 2018, here’s a chance to catch the artist in his element for a show at Paper Tiger on Friday, January 18 with D.T. Buffkin and Texas T & the Shine Runners.
$20-$25, 8pm, Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com.
