Canadian indie rock phenom Mac DeMarco is headed our way for a November solo performance.
Over five releases in about as many years, the multi-instrumentalist has built a buzz for his blend of sunny soft-rock songcraft imbued with gentle psychedelia and goofy irreverence. His latest, last year’s This Old Dog, moved in a more introspective direction, addressing the relationship with his estranged dad. And it also hit #1 on Billboard’s Top Independent Albums chart.
Lyrical seriousness aside, recent reviews suggest DeMarco hasn’t lost any of the merry pranksterism that marks his live shows. Expect magic tricks, mid-song musical detours and occasional free-form rants — and maybe even a little crowd surfing.
Tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 10, and with the Tobin Center’s Will Naylor Smith River Walk Plaza holding just 700, it might not be a bad idea to act fast.
