Appropriate to the windup for Fiesta, “fun” seems to be a running theme when it comes to San Antonio’s live music highlights.
Long-running roots rock act Southern Culture on the Skids is bringing its party-ready sound to SA, as are Dethklok and Amon Amarth, two metal acts known for their ability to headbang with tongue firmly clenched in teeth.
And then there’s the Sonidos de San Antonio showcase, a one-night celebration of conjunto and Tejano sounds featuring Little Joe, Shelly Lares, Santiago Jiménez Jr., Ram Herrera, Patsy Torres and more.
Let’s take a look.

Southern Culture on the Skids
Southern Culture on the Skids has been plying its party-centric, rootsy brand of swamp rock since 1983. After signing with David Geffen in the ’90s, the group hit a new level of visibility. For all intents and purposes, the act is rooted in classic Americana in the vein of the Byrds and Gram Parsons but with a turbo-charged punk edge tossed in for good measure. $30, 8 p.m., Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com. — Bill Baird
Sonidos de San Antonio featuring Patsy Torres, Little Joe, more
This one-night Fiesta season celebration of conjunto and Tejano music certainly brings the puro hometown flavor. For fans of the genres, it’s hard to think of a more packed lineup: Little Joe, Shelly Lares, Ruben Ramos, Santiago Jiménez Jr., Ram Herrera, Patsy Torres, Sunny Sauceda and Mariachi Los Paisanos. The concert has been put together by UT-San Antonio, Shellshock Records 3, and JMT Studios. $50, 7 p.m., Charline McCombs Empire Theatre, 226 N St. Mary’s St., (210) 226-5700, majesticempire.com. — BB

Dethklok, Amon Amarth
Almost 20 years on, Metalocalypse creator Brendon Small continues to tour as the primary member of fictional metal band Dethklok in celebration of his beloved animated show. Viking enthusiasts Amon Amarth serve as the second headliner on the bands’ appropriately named Amonklok Conquest Tour. As Dethklok guitarist Skwisgaar would say, “It will be mosts brutals death metals tour ever.” $78.49-$221.45, 7 p.m., 3331 General Hudnell Drive, (210) 600-3699, boeingcentertechport.com. — Brianna Espinoza

Gridiron, Skourge, Scarab, Fear of Loss, Order of Living
The rap-rock act Gridiron has always tended toward the hardcore side of that equation. Indeed, the “supergroup” itself was formed by members of several hardcore acts in post-pandemic Pennsylvania. With the 2025 release of its second full-length album Poetry from Pain, Gridiron continued to win over fans with moshable riffs and breakdowns supported by hip-hop inspired lyrics and flow. $23.57, 8 p.m., Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com. — Danny Cervantes
