Shock rocker Marilyn Manson will play back-to-back shows at San Antonio’s Aztec Theatre, on Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18, the venue revealed late Tuesday.
Billed as “evenings with Marilyn Manson,” the concerts are part of a tour celebrating 30th anniversary of Antichrist Superstar, the singer’s 1996 breakout album.
Near-constant MTV rotation for songs such as “The Beautiful People,” steeped in grotesque imagery and featuring and an eerie-yet-heavy sound that straddled metal and goth, made Manson a hit with music fans looking for new ways to shock their parents. The media ubiquity also ignited attacks from the Christian Right, which only served to further raise Manson’s profile.
More recently, Manson faced public backlash — including from his own fans — over accusations of sexual assault and domestic violence. Early last year, California prosecutors dropped a years-long probe into the allegations, saying they couldn’t be proven “beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Although more than a dozen women leveled accusations against the performer, his attorney has repeatedly maintained his innocence.
Presale tickets for Manson’s San Antonio shows will become available at 10 a.m. this Wednesday via the artist and 10 a.m. Thursday via Live Nation. General admission tickets become available at 10 a.m. Friday.
On Tuesday, Manson also released a video for the song “Front Toward Enemy,” the first single from the album OAUG – Chapter 2, due out in August on Nuclear Blast Records.
