Thursday, Oct. 31
The Black Angels
The Black Angels, organizers of the festival and gurus of the Texas psych-rock renaissance, kicking things off at Stubbs BBQ. Show up in costume for the costume contest. Black Angels bassist Jake Garcia is originally from San Antonio and played with a band called Chicken Fried Steak back in the day. DJ Sue Problema
San Antonio-based record collector and selector Sue Problema is performing a DJ set for Noche Sonido Psicodélico, a Latin psych and cumbia showcase at the Far Out Lounge. Bands performing include Superfonicos, Como Las Movies and ll.uv.ii. There will also be a family friendly costume contest. Friday, Nov. 1
En Orbito
En Orbito is playing with Los Espiritus at the 13th Floor. Though most of the band is based in Austin, leader Miguel “Ziggy” Pantoja, hails from San Antonio and still lives here. Saturday, Nov. 2
Grocery Bag Per usual, The Osees are playing every night of Levitation, and they have a different opener each night. All but one of the Osees’ four Levitation shows are sold out, including this one (sorry). Psych garage band Grocery Bag is sharing the Hotel Vegas stage with The Osees on Saturday, Nov. 2.
