The 16th Annual Diwali San Antonio festival will bring music, dance, food, art and fireworks to Hemisfair and the Arneson River Theatre this Saturday.

Billed by organizers as the nation’s “largest city-sanctioned and city-sponsored Diwali festival,” the free gathering celebrates India’s Festival of Lights, which symbolizes the spiritual victory of good over evil.

While Diwali technically spans five days, the San Antonio celebration packs all the revelry into a single night. Expect dance performances from multiple groups, DJs, food vendors, art displays, handcrafts and a river parade representing the states of India.

In keeping with Diwali tradition, the evening will include the ceremonial release of hundreds of floating candles, known as divas. The party will conclude with a fireworks display. A full schedule of events is available online.

Free, 4:30 p.m.-midnight, Saturday, Nov. 2, Arneson River Theatre, 418 Villita St., and Hemisfair, 434 S. Alamo St., anujasa.com.
