Live music venue The AMP Room is scheduled to close after 10 years operating on the St. Mary’s Strip.

The club revealed the news in a Saturday Facebook post, citing rising rent for its impending shutdown.

“After an incredible decade, The AMP Room will be closing its doors due to a rent increase,” the venue said. “We’re beyond grateful for the loyalty, love and unforgettable nights we’ve shared with all of you.”

In response to comments on the post, The AMP Room’s account revealed its last day will be Saturday, Oct. 4.

Located at 2407 N. St. Mary’s St., the small club had other venues to contend with in its immediate vicinity, including Paper Tiger right across the street and The Mix down the block.

The AMP Room had a diverse booking policy that included both local and small-time touring acts, ranging from stoner metal to indie-rock. It also regularly held themed DJ nights such as a recurring goth night.

Much like its name, its booking and its identity were a catch-all, eschewing a niche while competing venues such as The Mix became known as havens for metal heads and those craving heavier underground sounds.

The AMP Room nearly closed in 2020 during the pandemic, but its present ownership took over and saved it — at least for a few years.

As the club faces its last couple of weeks in business, it invited supporters to “raise a glass, sing along and help us close this chapter the only way The AMP Room knows how — with music, friends and good vibes.”
