Established in 2010 by Donnie Meals, general manager of SAC radio station KSYM, the festival originated as a capstone project for students and has evolved into an annual production that’s filmed, edited and broadcast on TVSA. Fredstock owes its name to Fred Weiss, who headed SAC’s music business program and served as professor in the school’s radio, TV and film program for more than 20 years.
To remain a free-entry event, Fredstock began hosting vendors, which supplement its operational budget. The campus stresses that the show isn’t about making money but giving students hands-on experience for a full-scale concert.
A few years after its launch, Fredstock applied to become an official Fiesta event and now is a recognized part of the annual citywide party.
Fredstock takes place rain of shine in SAC’s Parking Lot #13, located at the corner of Main Ave. and W. Dewey. It begins at 2:30 p.m. Here’s this year’s full lineup:
3:35 p.m. — Los #3 Dinners: Alamo City garage rock.
4:30 p.m. — The Wizard: Psychedelic blues trio with a funky groove.
5:35 p.m. — Powdered Wig machine: Noisy and surreal punk trio.
