The former frontman of Deep Purple, David Coverdale, began his hair metal fantasy group, complete with permed lingerie models for wives and videos of white … snakes and Jaguars with said permed lingerie models astride their hoods, in 1978. The group originally continued in a similar blues rock vein to DP but struck it big with the commercially-viable Slide It In (1984) – the sound of crunching leather and the hiss of a hairspray can blocked out any chance of Coverdale returning to a less-marketable medium.
In the press release for the tour, Coverdale stated that this tour is “most likely my personal ‘Farewell to Arena Rock.'” So, for those that can dig a sound from a guy that once combined Jimmy Page and acid wash, and I can, bust out the denim and meet me at the Majestic. Bring your mom.
