Police recovered a body Tuesday morning in Austin’s Lady Bird Lake, the epicenter of persistent — although widely debunked — serial killer rumors.

A 911 caller reported the body floating near South Lamar Boulevard and Riverside Drive at the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail, MySA reports. The corpse appeared to be a Black man, potentially in his teen years, Austin Police Corporal Jose Mendez said.

Though authorities didn’t release the identity of the man, they said he’s wearing the same clothing as a paddle-boarder who went missing two days ago.

“This is a tragic and unfortunate situation,” Mendez said at the news conference. “Safety here in Austin will continue to be our No. 1 priority. We will do whatever we can to figure out why this happened and what we can do to prevent anything like this from happening again.”

Lady Bird Lake claimed her latest victim mere days after the body of 18-year-old George Macias was discovered in San Antonio’s Woodlawn Lake, News4SA reports. The medical examiner hasn’t determined a cause and manner of death, but Macias was discovered following a torrential downpour in the area.

In March, authorities retrieved the body of Delilah Jimenez, 61, from Woodlawn Lake. She was living in the drainage tunnels that empty into the lake when she drowned, KSAT reports.

Although authorities have said there’s no reason to suspect foul play in relation to the deaths at either lake, online speculation continues to swirl about serial killers operating around both bodies of water.
