Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones announced Monday on his InfoWars YouTube program that one of his staffers was found “brutally murdered” outside his Austin apartment complex — an incident the far-right media personality blamed on the city’s “Soros DA.”

InfoWars writer and researcher James White was found in the parking lot of his apartment complex Sunday night with “obvious trauma wounds” and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:19 a.m., TV station KXAN reports. Initial media reports didn’t state what caused the trauma wounds but White’s sister told a British news source he’d been shot.

“There are a lot of cool people who have worked at InfoWars over the years, and one of the most amazing people was Jamie White,” Jones said on the Monday afternoon program.

Jones added that White worked late Sunday night before returning to his apartment complex. However, he didn’t show up to work the following morning.

“We sent some people over this morning because he didn’t answer the phone and he’s always here early — loves to work, loves to fight tyranny, loves to promote freedom,” Jones continued. “And when they got to the apartment complex, there was yellow tape everywhere and blood all over the the parking lot.”

Jones said his crew talked to the apartment manager.

“They didn’t know anything. It’s like everyone else we see on the left — very laissez faire,” said Jones, who added that he broke the news of the death after notifying White’s family.

At that point, Jones began assigning blame and politicizing the tragedy.

“The crime is very bad here in Austin, any leftist city is,” said Jones, adding that White’s death is the eighth homicide to occur in Austin so far this year.

Austin media outlets have recently reported on concerns about rising violent crime. For example, the city was the scene of seven homicides last November, including four in a single week, TV station KVUE reports.

Jones blamed the rise on District Attorney José Garza, whom he called an “actual communist” and a “Soros DA,” referring to left-wing megadonor George Soros — a far-right bogeyman and frequent target of antisemitic attacks.

Jones also claimed police budgets have been cut in Austin, particularly for responding to violent crime.

However, the 2025 budget shows an Austin PD budget increase to the tune of $18 million for an overall total of over $500 million. This includes a nearly $2 million budget increase for investigations.

During his screed, Jones also cast blame on “open borders” for the city’s crime issues.

However, it’s questionable whether an influx of new migrants has much effect on Austin crime states considering U.S. Border Patrol encounters with migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border plummeted last year and have remained at low levels.

Austin police officials said they haven’t identified a suspect in White’s death. However, the sister of the dead InfoWars staffer told the DailyMail that the murder appeared to be a shooting after an attempted robbery gone wrong and not a targeted attack.

“My brother was shot,” White’s sister Kelly Kneale said. “Someone was attempting to break into his car.” Subscribe to SA Current newsletters.
