A brigade of firefighters from Mexico has traveled to the Texas Hill Country to aid with flood recovery efforts.
Fundación 911 and Dirección de Protección Civil y Bomberos de Acuña, Coahuila — both based in the border town of Acuña — arrived in Ingram, Texas over the weekend. In a Facebook post announcing its arrival, the group shared photos of its crew helping the search efforts with the caption “solidaridad sin fronteras,” meaning solidarity without borders.
The crews from Mexico joined forces with another group from Mountain Home, an unincorporated town in Kerr County. The Mountain Home firefighters trained the international crews on U.S. emergency response protocol before they set out together.
The training was provided in collaboration with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service and TEEX, a fire safety and emergency service company. According to a Facebook post by Dirección de Protección Civil y Bomberos de Acuña, Coahuila, the training resulted in international certification for the Mexico crews, which included a fire chief, captain, inspector, paramedic and nurses.
