While the Witte Museum’s new dinosaur gallery won’t open until 2017, you can get a sneak peek at one of its residents this afternoon — and a selfie, too.
From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. today, meet Tex Rex, “the newest member of the Witte family,” during Free Tuesday. Who doesn’t love free stuff and dinosaurs?
The Naylor Family Dinosaur Gallery should deliver when opened, with 3-D animated dinosaurs; a life-size Tyrannosaurs Rex; and an Acrocanthosaurus, a large Lone Star State carnivore whose tracks can still be seen in Government Canyon State Park. Visitors will also be able to excavate bones — virtually and in reality — and learn how paleontologists study those terrible lizards via a new research lab connected to the gallery. There will also be educational programming and curator-led conversations.
