Another Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office is coming to San Antonio — this one on the city’s predominantly Latino South Side, according to the Express-News, citing data from an immigration-focused Substack.

The federal government signed paperwork to lease 75,000 square feet of space at the WaterEdge office building at Brooks, 7515 and 7611 Inner Circle Drive, according to the daily’s report. The leases are for 15 years at a combined cost of $51.3 million.

ICE plans to use the space for immigration operations, including legal proceedings and hearings, Brooks Development Authority CEO Leo Gomez told Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones in an email, according to the Express-News.

The new location would be the third San Antonio ICE office.

Word of the lease comes as City Council weighs filing a lawsuit to halt the White House’s plans to convert a massive East Side warehouse into a 1,500-bed processing center for migrants scheduled for deportation.

On Thursday, City Council ordered San Antonio Water System and CPS Energy to assess how the proposed detention site would affect the city’s water and electric systems.
