Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones on Tuesday said her office has hired two more San Antonio natives, Sophia Alejandro and Carlos de Leon, to help with policy and communications, respectively.
“We are thrilled to have Carlos and Sophia on our team working for the people of San Antonio,” Jones said in a statement. “Sophia will bring her expertise to bear, advancing our policy priorities and forging relationships in every corner of the city. At the same time, Carlos’ keen perspective and experience in public affairs and economic development will ensure our constituents stay informed about our progress.
Alejandro, who will serve as Jones’ policy advisor, last worked at UnidosUS, the nation’s largest Latino civil rights organization, as a program coordinator in Washington, D.C. She also worked in education in San Antonio as part of Teach for America.
Meanwhile, De Leon, a graduate of Incarnate Word University, was hired as Jones’ communications director. De Leon has worked in public affairs, communications and economic development in South Texas for the past 15 years.
De Leon led the San Antonio office of national marketing and advertising firm Romph Pou before being tapped by Jones’ office.
The hirings come weeks after Jones also recruited longtime City Hall operative and former District 8 chief of staff Pat Wallace as deputy chief of staff.
