On Friday, a federal judge ruled that San Antonio investment adviser and radio host Brooklynn Chandler Willy must remain in jail while she’s under indictment for obstruction of justice and other charges, the Express-News reports.

Willy’s attorney requested that she be released on bond, but U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth “Betsy” Chestney said the financial guru — who also faces at least three civil suits from former clients — poses too much risk to be on the streets, according to the daily.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Blackwell asked for Willy to remain in custody, arguing she presented “a danger to the community,” the Express-News reports. The federal charges stem from allegations that Willy obstructed a grand jury proceeding, lied to authorities and falsified documents as the FBI and IRS  conducted a financial fraud investigation.

Willy, 45, operates Alamo City-based Texas Financial Advisory and also dispenses investment advice on a program that airs on radio stations WOAI-AM, KTSA-AM and KTSA-FM. She was arrested Tuesday on the federal charges she now faces.

Willy’s attorney, Roy Barrera Jr., said he was disappointed by Chestney’s ruling. The judge handed down the decision while Willy appeared in the courtroom wearing shackles, the Express-News reports. The defendant’s husband, parents and two sisters were also present.

“We hope to rectify [the ruling] through our continued negotiations with the government,” Barrera told the daily.

Even so, former Willy clients at the hearing appeared anything but disappointed, according to the Express-News. They broke into applause after the judge handed down her decision.
