Fans are joining together to help King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation actor Jonathan Joss get back on his feet after he lost his San Antonio home and three dogs in a fire last week.
A GoFundMe account for the actor has raised $6,003 of its $15,000 goal as of press time. The fundraiser is organized by San Antonio resident Logan Kostroun on behalf of Joss’s partner, Tristan Kern, who also lived in the home.
Joss shared the fundraiser to his Facebook page on Wednesday, adding, “Thank you everyone for your magnificent support.”
The actor is known for the role of Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation and as the voice of John Redcorn on the Mike Judge cartoon King of the Hill.
Joss and his partner lost their South Side residence — Joss’s childhood home — Jan. 23. Three of Joss’s dogs perished in the fire and one more is still missing, according to KSAT.
“People have come together. They’ve brought clothing to us. They’ve brought food, so I mean, we’re not the only people that are going through tragedies right now,“ Joss told the TV station in an interview Tuesday. ”Not living in LA, I [thought I] wouldn’t be affected by fire.”
Joss said the American Red Cross has provided financial assistance to extend the couple’s hotel stay until next Wednesday. Some LGBTQ+ organizations have also reached out to offer clothing and food, the actor told KSAT.
Last week, at the scene of the blaze, Joss told KSAT that he was already staying in a hotel due to electrical issues in the house. He said he’d gone home to care for his dogs, leaving a propane heater on while he stepped out to get something to eat. That’s when the blaze ignited and claimed his house and pets.
Joss said the home, which his father built in 1957, wasn’t insured.
“I am going to be reaching out to the city to see if there is any kind of organization that can help me pick up the pieces without charging a lot of money or without putting a lien on the property,” Joss told KSAT Tuesday. “I’m also going to reach out to the San Antonio housing community to see if there’s any way that I can be put on a list because, by Thursday of next week, I’ll be homeless again.”
