Jonathan Joss You can’t get much more San Antonio than Jonathan Joss, who was born in the Alamo City in 1965 as Jonathan Gonzales. Of Spanish, Comanche and White Mountain Apache descent, Joss attended McCollum High School and attended Texas State before leaving the university and finishing his studies at Our Lady of the Lake. The actor played John Redcorn on King of the Hill and Chief Ken Hotate on Parks and Recreation, and has had roles in the video games Days Gone, Wasteland 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Credit: Netflix

Jonathan Joss, an actor known for his roles on King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation, lost his San Antonio home and dogs in a fire Thursday.

Fire crews responded to the blaze on the 200 block of Dorsey Drive Thursday afternoon and were able to extinguish the flames, KSAT reports, but not before extensive damage was done to the home and a vehicle in its carport. Joss’ dogs were inside the house and perished in the fire, according to the report.

Joss told KSAT on the scene that he’d been using a propane heater to heat the house, and left it on when he went to get something to eat. The house caught fire while he was gone.

“Mistakes happen, man. And it’s my fault for, I guess, leaving something on,” Joss told KSAT. “Or if somebody came in and did something, who knows?”

Joss had been staying in a hotel due to electrical issues with the house caused by vandals, KSAT reports. He’d gone home briefly to care for his dogs, who remained there.

Joss’ father built the house in 1957 for his mother, the actor told the TV station. San Antonio-born Joss continued to live in his childhood home even though his career took him to Hollywood. Joss voiced the part of Jonathan Redcorn on King of the Hill, Mike Judge’s cartoon sendup of Texas suburban life, in addition to appearing in five episodes of Parks and Recreation as Ken Hotate. He also appeared in the Coen Brothers’ 2010 remake of True Grit with Jeff Bridges as well as appearing in and providing voiceovers for other projects, including video games like Red Dead Redemption.
