The dream of high-speed rail connecting San Antonio to Dallas may seem unattainable given myriad obstacles, but there’s still Interstate 35 and a new way to travel the route in comfort.

GOGO Charters, a San Antonio-based charter firm is rolling out several daily Texas routes over the next two years with the first route from San Antonio to Dallas with stops in San Marcos, Austin, Temple and Waco.

Each bus has extra legroom in every row, televisions with DVD players, electronic device charger connections, Wi-Fi and on-board bathrooms. Routes between other major cities will follow along with regular routes to other cities across the nation where the company already operates for-hire charter fleets of everything from minibuses to 56-passenger buses.

“Texas is booming. From its population growth to its reputation as an economic powerhouse, the Lone Star State attracts people from all walks of life. But with this growth comes challenges in mobility,” writes Mark Thronson, president of GOGO in a blog post announcing the luxury bus routes.

“The corridor between Dallas and San Antonio — a piece of the Texas Triangle — is one of the busiest in the state, yet many travelers are left with few appealing options. Driving can be stressful and expensive, especially with rising gas prices. Flying might seem faster, but by the time you account for airport commutes and security lines, the time savings often disappear,” Thronson said.

A study from the Chaddick Institute at DePaul University found that bus services connecting cities have returned to about 85% to 90% of pre-pandemic ridership. Station closures and reduced services in some cities have left many underserved, Thronson wrote, leading to fewer accessible and travel choices in Texas.

The so-called Texas Triangle of San Antonio, Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston should be completed with additional rollouts by GOGO this year.
