Hitting vape pens in bars, restaurants and other indoor public spaces is now illegal in San Antonio.
A city ordinance banning vaping from all indoor public spaces took effect Jan. 1 after being unanimously approved by City Council last fall. Those who violate the new rule face a $200 fine for a first violation, $500 for the second and up to $2,000 for each thereafter.
San Antonio prohibited indoor smoking in 2010, but that ordinance didn’t include specific language on vaping and e-cigarettes, which have since exploded in popularity.
Roughly other 100 other Texas cities also have implemented vaping bans, the Express-News reports.
Just the same, don’t expect to see San Antonio police writing a rash of tickets to those who can’t keep their vape pens in their pockets. The city has issued just three citations for indoor smoking over the past three years, according to the daily.
Use of e-cigarettes has been banned in San Antonio parks, plazas and public squares since 2019.
