In honor of Pride Month, which began Sunday, the City of San Antonio has hoisted a rainbow flag that’s now “proudly flying” over City Hall, city officials said in an Instagram post.

The city on Monday shared a video of workers raising the Pride flag, which joins the American and Texas flags flapping in the wind on the building’s roof. The clip is set to Lady Gaga’s LGBTQ+ anthem “Born This Way.”

Comments of praise flooded in on the post, both from members of the queer community and its allies. However, naysayers also commented, accusing the city of being “intolerant” of straight people by displaying the Pride flag.

“A lot of people might find this offensive as it is very non ‘tolerant’ of anyone not agreeing for any reason, and therefore it’s not a loving symbol,” said user @hearthealthyhustle. Other commenters tagged Donald Trump and Gov. Greg Abbott, presumably hoping to call in reinforcements.

The Current notes that straight people who have been harmed by this flag are free to call the hotline 1-800-CRY-MORE.

This year, Pride month comes as the Texas Legislature winds down a session in which lawmakers presented a record number of bills targeting gay and transgender Texans. These include House Bill 229, which defines man and woman based on gender assigned at birth. HB 229 is currently on Abbott’s desk, where it is expected to be signed into law, making Texas the 14th state to adopt a so-called “sex definition” law.

However, the queer community also has much to celebrate, including the death of the drag queen story time bill. Another bill making it a felony to be trans, punishable by jail time, also failed to pass this session, among more than a hundred more bills targeting the gay and trans community.
